IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

IN VITRO FERTILIZATION (IVF)

More than one million IVF babies have been born in the USA alone. With 150,000+ national success stories (and counting), many are here with the help of Boston IVF!

headphonescircle Before patients choose IVF, intrauterine insemination (IUI) is sometimes a first-line of treatment for patients who would like to become pregnant.

For many others, however, IVF offers the best chance to become pregnant in the shortest time possible.

For over 35 years, Boston IVF has performed hundreds of thousands of successful IVF cycles across the country. Our IVF program uses the most advanced and effective technology available today to help individuals and couples conceive a healthy baby.

  • Gay couples using a gestational carrier
  • Lesbian couples with infertility

IVF vs. IUI

Many other centers inflate IVF success rates by excluding patients from IVF treatment based on low initial test results and a “one-size-fits-all” treatment template.

  • this leads to MORE TIME in treatment
  • this leads to MORE TOTAL COSTS
  • this leads to MORE UNSUCCESSFUL IUI cycles

Our fertility experts in Albany, Rochester, and Syracuse emphasize a customized model of patient care that saves you money in the long run and increases your overall chances.

THE IVF PROCESS

Ovarian Stimulation
For the first two weeks of your IVF cycle, you will take fertility medications to stimulate your ovarian follicles, where eggs are produced.

Egg Retrieval
In a simple in-office procedure, we use ultrasound guidance to retrieve eggs from your ovarian follicles. At the same time, your partner provides a fresh semen sample from our lab. Our embryologists then select the best quality sperm for use.

Embryo Growth & Development
In our lab, our embryologists fertilize your eggs with your partner’s (or donor) sperm to create embryos. Your embryos are transferred into our incubators, for ideal growth conditions. After 3-5 days of growth in our incubators, our embryologists select the healthiest embryo that will give you the highest chance of success. In an in-office procedure, your doctor will transfer the embryo into your uterus via a small catheter (tube) inserted through the cervix.

Pregnancy Test
Two weeks later, you will come in to our office one last time for a pregnancy test! Our fertility team will let you know the results as soon as possible!

IVF & GENETIC TESTING

A growing number of patients choose to perform genetic testing prior to IVF (via PGT-A and PGT-M) on their embryos. This optional step in the IVF process is a valuable tool to greatly reduce your risk of miscarriage, chromosomal abnormalities within an embryo, and passing on a genetic disease. It also increases your chance for IVF success!

Genetic testing is performed in our Albany and Syracuse IVF labs prior to implantation. As your embryos are developing, your fertility doctor will test each embryos DNA, which provides a great deal of information about which embryos are most likely to lead to a healthy pregnancy and birth.

Genetic testing also opens up the possibility of sex selection, as well.
